Blogging Anniversary - 10 years

A while ago I checked when I did my first blog post, in order to celebrate with an anniversary post. Well, that day came and went without any reaction from me. Better late than never, so here a reminder of my very first blog post from 24 October 2012.  The book was New Finnish Grammar  by Diego Marani. Marani is an Italian novelist, translator and newspaper columnist. While working as a translator for the European Union he invented a language ‘Europanto’ which is a mixture of languages and based on the common practice of word-borrowing usage of many EU languages. It was a suitable book to start with, being a book about letters, languages and memories. MERRY CHRISTMAS

Just a few lines on 24 December. This is the big Christmas day in Sweden and, this year,  we are celebrating quietly. Due to corona my family are not able to come. At least our son, Hannes, is home for Christmas which is nice. A friend of us will come over and celebrate with us. Swedes have a lot of food traditions for Christmas and we prepare a smorgasbord, but this year I have prepared a smaller buffé than usual. 

I wish you all, fellow bloggers, happy holidays. I so much enjoy interacting with you, reading your blog posts and sometimes commenting. I do read them though, even if I don't always comment. I am looking forward to see what you are up to for 2022. See you then!

    Merry Christmas and I hope you're having a lovely day! My Finnish and Czech clients and my cousin's Polish husband and his family in the UK are all celebrating today, too!

      I think the different countries in Europe are split as concerns celebrating on 24 or 25 of December. But, when it comes down to it, it doesn't matter. Hope you all had relaxing and stress free holidays.

      Thank you Brona. I hope you family is now ok and recovering. It somehow takes down the festive season. We are happy to be well and healthy, and I think it is the best present we can wish these days. All the best for 2022.

This is one of those popular help yourself books that seems to overflow these days. However, it defies all the good advices we have been given during the last years, that is; stay positive. Manson says: "Let's be honest; sometimes things are fucked up and we have to live with it."  Right! That is life after all. "One day, in retrospect, the years of struggle will strike you as the most beautiful." Sigmund Freud  With this quote in mind Manson argues that values such as "pleasure, material success, always being right, staying positive", are poor guidelines for a persons life. Die Manns (The Mann Family) by Tilmann Lahme

One of my favourite books is Buddenbrooks  by Thomas Mann. It was Thomas Mann's first novel and it was published in 1901. It gave him the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1929. Tilmann Lahme's biography of the Mann family is an interesting account of a family where the author rose above everyone else. Thomas Mann was born in 1875, but the biography starts in 1922 when he was already an established writer with part of his production behind him. It covers the years in Germany, the exile years during World War II (France, Switzerland, and the USA), the peace years, and the final years in Switzerland.  The Manns was a troubled family. The mother Katia, took care of the family and the business that was Thomas Mann. They had six children; Klaus, Erika, Golo, Monika, Elisabeth och Michael.
