Time for a May wrap-up. I am travelling in Norway for the time being so I am a little bit behind with everything blogging. Nevertheless, here is a summary of my May reading and forward look on what can be expected in June. I read 9 books of which 7 came from my own shelves or e-books.

My own challenges (as far as possible from my own shelves).
A nonfiction from my TBR shelves - Marie Antoinette by Stefan Zweig was on the schedule, but I have just started it. Did not read another nonfiction from my shelves.
A fiction from my TBR shelves - Life Short, Rytkönen Long by Arto Paasilinna. Another Paasilinna, not as good as the other two I have recently read, but still good enough.
A translated novel outside of the English- and Swedish languages - Hedda Gabler by Henrik Ibsen (Norwegian), Life Short, Rytkönen Long by Arti Paasilinna (Finnish), The Collini Case by Ferinand von Schirach (German). Excellent novel that I will review soon.
A classic tale - Fänrik Ståhls sägner (The Tales of Ensign Ståhl) by Johan Ludvig Runeberg (classic and Finnish language). Still not started, but I have it with me.
A book from my want to read list - Non scheduled and non read.
The Unread Shelf
May - The shortest unread book on your shelf - I choose two books since they are short.
The Overcoat and Other Short Stories by Nikolai Gogol (103 pages)
Kära Agnes by Håkan Nesser (160 pages)
Gogol is not my favourite Russian author, I find him rather boring. However, finally finished these short stories which I have had on my shelves for probably 30 years if not more. Håkan Nesser is always a treat, and I bought several books by him second hand recently. Kära Agnes (Dear Agnes) is a wonderful story with a very big twist in the end.

- Presidentskan (La Regenta) by Leopoldo Alas Clarín (March 'women' theme challenge) Reading
- The History of the Siege of Lisbon (História do cerco de Lisboa) by José Saramago Reading - Reading. It is a book with small text and no air on the pages.
- The Crimson Petal and the White by Michael Faber (thick book, reading a chapter a day) Reading
- The Tower by Uwe Tellkamp (thick book, reading a chapter a day) Reading

Theme for June: The Last Kingdom series by Bernard Cornwell. I have seen the TV-series based on the first eight books, so start with number nine; Warriors of the Storm.
The Unread Shelf
June theme: a book about a journey - Women Travellers might be a suitable choice.

Thank you Emma. I have started the Cornwell series with book no. 9. There is some confusion since the tv-series not always follow the books. However, I think I can manage, and I am interested in how he tells the story.

Thank you for this summary of your month. I know how difficult it is to keep up with blogging when you are traveling. Hopefully you will share some of your traveling adventures as well as more about your reading when you return.
ReplyDeleteThank you Deb. Yes, there are always a lot of other things to do than blogging when you are travelling. I had a problem with my back and shoulders and therefore we had to return earlier. I hope to publish a few more literary Norwegian connections soon.
