Changing blogging domain and site

Dear blogger friends, Lately, I had a few problems with the Blogger web site for my blog The Content Reader . I took this as a sign that I should finally create a web site of my own. I have been checking out other options, but could not get my act together. Finally, I have managed to create a basic web site with Wix, which I hope will be developed over time.  It has not been easy to find my way around. One thing one can say about Blogger is that it is easy to work with.  This site will no longer be updated Follow me to my new domain @  thecontentreader.com Hope to see you there.  Lisbeth @ The Content Reader

Advent Calendar, box no. 8 - Book beginnings on Friday & Friday 56

Friday, 8 December and time flies. I have to start preparations for Christmas. Luckily, we will be with my parents, so I can just come in an help out. It is a little bit of luxury. Friday is time for book beginnings and here is one for you.

Rose City Reader, is hosting Book beginnings on Friday. She says:

Please join me every Friday to share the first sentence (or so) of the book you are reading, along with your initial thoughts about the sentence, impressions of the book, or anything else the opener inspires. Please remember to include the title of the book and the author’s name.

Freda’s voice is hosting Friday 56 and the rules are:

*Grab a book, any book.
*Turn to page 56 or 56% in your eReader
(If you have to improvise, that's ok.)
*Find any sentence, (or few, just don't spoil it)
*Post it.
*Add your (url) post below in Linky. Add the post url, not your blog url.
*It's that simple.

My book this week is one I am reading for the moment The Last Confession of Thomas Hawkins by Antonia Hodgson.

"No one thought Tom Hawkins would hang. Not until the last moment.

"'Because I do know how you hate to be nagged, Tom. And of course I am not your wife, so it is not my place to ask, "and what took you to the park so late?" or "who did you expect o meet there? It would be most indelicate of me to suggest that perhaps you should have take me to the damned play this evening instead, as you bloody well promised. Gah! She scrubbed at a spot on my jaw. 'Damn it. This dirt won't come off.'"

This is the second book about Tomas Hawkins, the first being  The Devil in the Marshalsea. I have read about this lately, and maybe should have started with that one. However, a part from some references to earlier happenings, I think this is a free standing book. So far so good.

  3. Great beginning. It certainly raises a lot of questions. I am featuring A Murder for the Books by Victoria Gilbert. Happy reading!

    1. Yes, I really love this beginning. Although he is the narrator, so....! Maybe he got out of it somehow?

  4. Okay, so is the first line giving the ending away? Since the second part is apparently from Thomas Hawkings's point of view, it does make you wonder.

    1. Well, that's it. He is the narrator and here we have the story! The book is written in back lashes and in between we go back to the wagon that takes him to Tyburn. Have to wait until the end.

    1. Yes, me too. I am just in the beginning, but it seems that trouble is building up for Tom Hawkins.

    1. Now I have finished it. It was a little bit slow in the beginning, but somewhere in the middle it picked up and I could not put it down. Finished it at 1.30 in the morning!
