Changing blogging domain and site

Image
Dear blogger friends, Lately, I had a few problems with the Blogger web site for my blog The Content Reader . I took this as a sign that I should finally create a web site of my own. I have been checking out other options, but could not get my act together. Finally, I have managed to create a basic web site with Wix, which I hope will be developed over time.  It has not been easy to find my way around. One thing one can say about Blogger is that it is easy to work with.  This site will no longer be updated Follow me to my new domain @  thecontentreader.com Hope to see you there.  Lisbeth @ The Content Reader

Book beginnings on Friday and Page 56

Two challenges that I am following and enjoying to see what your choices are. Here are mine for this week.

Book beginnings on Friday

Rose City Reader, is hosting Book beginnings on Friday. She says:
Please join me every Friday to share the first sentence (or so) of the book you are reading, along with your initial thoughts about the sentence, impressions of the book, or anything else the opener inspires. Please remember to include the title of the book and the author’s name.

Friday 56

Freda’s voice is hosting Friday 56 and the rules are:

*Grab a book, any book.
*Turn to page 56 or 56% in your eReader
(If you have to improvise, that's ok.)
*Find any sentence, (or few, just don't spoil it)
*Post it.
*Add your (url) post below in Linky. Add the post url, not your blog url.
*It's that simple.

The Content Reader
My book this week is The Sleepwalkers - How Europe went to war in 1914 by Christopher Clark

I have just finished this very, thick book, which I have been reading for over a year (book review will follow soon). It is a fascinating, interesting book on the turbulent times in Europe in the beginning of the 20th century.

Beginning

”The European continent was at peace on the morning of Sunday 28 June 1914, when Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sophie Chotek arrived at Sarajevo railway station.”

Page 56

”Ilic’s choice of collaborators - a man with a proven record of ineptitude in carrying out high-risk assignments and two completely inexperienced schoolboys - seems bizarre at first glance, but there was method in the madness.”

Hope you have also enjoyed some nice beginnings and 56s!

  1. Sounds like a heavy read. I have to be in the mood for historical novels like The Sleepwalkers.

    1. Well, it is not a historical novel but a non-fiction. It is very detailed, but quite fascinating. The real story is sometimes more exciting and complicated than any made up story.

  2. Sounds excellent, but quite a long and harrowing read. Well done for finishing. That's quite an accomplishment.

    1. It is a long read, but it is so fascinating. To see how politicians in those days made decisions that changed the lives of so many. And when you see how leisurely the decisions sometimes were made, it is scaring.

  3. I have had this one sitting on my shelf for years because I'm fascinated by World War I. Thanks for reminding me of it!

    1. Start it and take it in doses. But once you get into it, it takes you on journey which is totally unexpected and scary at the same time.

  4. This sounds like a book to read slowly, over time. Thanks for sharing, and here's mine: “MYSTIC SUMMER”

My Friday post features THE REVENANT. It's based on a real story.

    1. It is enjoyable and scary at the same time. After having read review of the film, I decided not to see it. Even if reviews were very good. Maybe I should read the book instead?

    1. It is very well written and, at times, more exciting than any fictional story.

  8. This sounds like a really interesting read - I have always enjoyed reading books about how countries get into war so I will be adding this to my tbr. Here's my Friday meme

  9. It is very interesting and scary on how the countries were more or less driven to war, because they did not know and was afraid what the others were doing.

  10. I've always been interested in this time period. Thanks for sharing.
