Blogging Anniversary - 10 years
A while ago I checked when I did my first blog post, in order to celebrate with an anniversary post. Well, that day came and went without any reaction from me. Better late than never, so here a reminder of my very first blog post from 24 October 2012. The book was New Finnish Grammar by Diego Marani. Marani is an Italian novelist, translator and newspaper columnist. While working as a translator for the European Union he invented a language ‘Europanto’ which is a mixture of languages and based on the common practice of word-borrowing usage of many EU languages. It was a suitable book to start with, being a book about letters, languages and memories. With a beautiful prose, the novel went directly to my heart. "One night at Trieste in September 1943 a seriously wounded soldier is found on the quay. The doctor, of a newly arrived German hospital ship, Pietri Friari gives the unconscious soldier medical assistance. His new patient has no documents or anything that can ide...

Wow! This is an ambitious challenge and one I don't think I can carve the time for right now but it looks like a good one -- especially when I see a number of books on this list I haven't read. I'll have to think about that one but wish you well!
ReplyDeleteAnd a quick thank you for that wonderful comment on my Gypsy post about our baby and grandparenting being the dessert of life. I love that. I'll hold that expression close to my heart and remember it many times over the course of years!
Yes, it is great. Unfortunately, I have only been able to finalise three books during the time I have been participating. But, at least it is three books.
DeleteI love Tennessee Williams but, like you, I find it much easier to see a play than to read one. The Go-Between is one of my all-time favourites so I kinda hope you get that one. Whatever one you get, I hope you enjoy it! :)
ReplyDeleteI bought the Go-Between because somebody said it was one of the best books she had read. Looking forward reading it.
DeleteWe share the Isherwood at no.3. A lot of your books are on my cc list take 2 either as new-to-me or rereads.
ReplyDeleteHappy spinning!
Good. Would be nice to read at the same time. Let's see what number will come up.
DeleteAn interesting list--I'd say it's a good thing you didn't get The Divine Comedy--that took me three months to read! I agree, it's easier to watch plays than read them, though when I can I will do both. I'm not familiar with the Williams title the Spin selected, but hopefully it's one you will enjoy. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteI hope I will enjoy it. I have only seen his dramas before, not read them.
DeleteYes, the Divine Comedy. I really want to read it, but it is not a book you just read from page to page, I guess. You have to stop and reflect on what he is saying, so I guess it will take a longer time to read! Did you enjoy it though?
I did! I was really glad I had a version with notes, though, as there were many references I wouldn't have understood otherwise.
